The Black Sea LME - Oceanographic database



The oceanographic database of the Black Sea LME covers 86 836 stations, from 1884 to 2013 (Figure 1).

The distribution of stations by years and months is presented in Figure 2.

The tables and charts of station distribution for each month of every year for the considered period are presented in Inventory and archive data section.

To analyze long-term variability of hydrological characteristics of the Eastern Black Sea, two sections are considered in the Atlas:

  • Samsun The Kerch Strait(Figure 3);
  • Yalta Batumi (Figure 4).

A number of stations located in a belt of 20 km wide from each side and used for the construction of climatic standards and anomalies is correlated with each section. The total number of stations for Samsun the Kerch Strait section is around 1 555, and the Yalta Batumi section includes 9 134 stations.

Maps of the vertical distributions of the climatic standarts and anomalies of temperature and salinity are given in section Time series of water temperature and salinity
